Tyler's (Ussery) Final Project Process

How did we get this beautiful table? We begin our journey with two 1x6 at 8', four 1x4 at 8', and a boat load of ingenuity.

I started by cutting the 1x6 to two 4' sections and two 2' sections for the border of the bread cut table top. I then cut four 3'1" sections of 1x4 and ripped them down to 3 1/4" for the inner section of the table top. I then cut the all of the 1x6 at a 45 degree angle on the edges.

I then used a biscuit joiner to punch the necessary slots to bind the table top together on the wide section of the table top.

I then used wood glue to bind the wide section together with wood biscuits and raised it up on two pieces of scrap 2x4 so that the pipe clamp could get a good hold.

I then clamped the wide section of the table with three pipe clamps and two other clamps on the end. I let it dry overnight.

I then used the biscuit joiner to cut three slots for the long section of 1x6 and glued the 2' sections to the rest of the table top and secured it with two pipe clamps. I left them to dry overnight.

While I waited for this to dry I sought to create the legs. To create the legs I used spare 1x4 from my own wood and that which was around the shop. I cut the pieces to 1' 11 1/4" long and ripped them down to 2 1/4" wide. I glued these sections together and bound them together with three C-clamps each to dry overnight.

The next day I sanded down all the rough edges and glue from the bonding with the belt sander and the orbital sander.

Wednesday I began constructing the base. I started by cutting the remanding 1x4 to two 3'1", two 12 3/4" sections, and one 15 3/4". I pocket drilled four holes along the length of the 3'1" sections, two pocket holes along the length of the 12 3/4" sections, and two pocket holes, one on each of the sides along the length of the 15 3/4". On each of these sections, I have drilled two holes on each of width.

I began constructing the base by clamping two of the legs together with the 12 3/4" and pocket screwing it together with 1 1/4" screws. I used these screws in the screwing of the skirt together. I did the mirror of this to the other two legs. Then using the pipe clamps I bound these parts of the base together with the 3'1" and screwed them together.

I then pocket screwed the 15 3/4" section into the middle skirt.

I then C-clamped the base to the table top, 3 1/4" from every edge. I then screwed the base to the table top with 1" screws in all  of the pocket screws.

That's one fine table. I am overjoyed with how it turned out.
