I want to build this jewelry box. This project seems like it will challenge me to make both drawers and to possibly paint it (if I have the time). I think that the combined cost of the wood plus the screws and doorknobs will come out to approximately 50 dollars or so. I've decided to go with pine select because if I were to potentially paint this box, the pine select would take the paint well because of its texture. In terms of size, I would like to make the jewelry box about 7'' x 12''x 8''.

Screws, doorknobs, other hardware - $10-20
I think you will want to make this from pine lumber not plywood. Then you won't have to deal with the exposed edges of the plywood.
